The focus for Year 1 will be to help develop relationship skills by developing social skills for making and keeping friends, getting along well with others and being accepted and managing disagreements well.
The Year 1 lessons will focus on:
- Getting to know others
- What do children like about other children
- It's important to listen well when people talk to you
- Including others
- Friendship and how to make new friends
- What is being a good friend
- Friends can be different
- How to be a thoughtful and loyal friend
- If you want to HAVE a good friend, then you have to BE a good friend
- It's OK to have a more than one friend
- Being separated from a friend
- No one has friends all the time. Everyone feels lonely sometimes
- Good and bad ways to disagree. It's OK to have an argument as long as your don't hurt the other person
- Apologising and being friends again
- Sometimes friendships change and are no longer as strong as they were
- It takes hard work to learn how to get along with other people and be a good friend
- Getting along well with others and making friends will make your feel happier
- Social skills are things that you can do to get along well and make friends
