A message from our Principal, Mrs Alison Filipic
Welcome to Wahroonga Public School! Since 1944, The Bush School has been and continues to be a true learning community: where parents, teachers and support staff work in collaboration and where students are actively engaged in differentiated learning experiences that ensure academic, social and emotional growth across all areas of the curriculum.
Presently the school serves almost 700 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 28 classes. 41% of our students are from families with language backgrounds other than English.
The Bush School is supported by a generous Parents and Citizens Association which works in partnership with the school to provide both material and human resources that contribute to improved outcomes for students.
Strong performing arts, sports, enrichment and technology programs support the day-to-day learning that occurs within classrooms.
Other features of the school include two in-ground swimming pools (the first opened in 1958), a marvellous bush amphitheatre (opened in 1967) and a large school hall with state-of-the-art audio visual capabilities.
Set amongst Ku-ring-gai’s Blue Gum High Forest with its incredible wildlife, the school is a unique educational setting, a focal point and source of pride for the community.
The NSW Department of Education’s purpose is ‘to prepare young people for rewarding lives as engaged citizens in a complex and dynamic society’ (NSW DoE Strategic Plan 2018 – 2022). Wahroonga Public School places focus on:
Developing and maintaining positive partnerships with students, families and carers and all those associated with the wider school community.
Raising student achievement at all levels and stages by ensuring that students achieve at least one year’s learning growth for one year of schooling and making sure that as a school we focus on academic as well as social/emotional growth and development.
Promoting equity and excellence by ensuring that as a school we provide students with what they personally need to connect, succeed and thrive. Wahroonga Public School embraces inclusion and builds a culture of high expectations that take into account the richness and diversity of the wider school community.
Creating and sustaining the conditions under which quality teaching and learning thrive, as each student deserves a quality teacher for every year of their schooling. Ongoing, high quality professional learning for staff ensures that students at Wahroonga Public School are taught by highly effective teachers who are familiar with current research and teaching pedagogy.
Ensuring that all students are known, valued and cared for and that procedures and programs at Wahroonga Public School foster a positive mindset for students. Wellbeing of staff is also vitally important as staff who are known, valued and cared for have a positive impact on student outcomes.
The staff and parents through the P&C Association work tirelessly to deliver a memorable, positive primary school experience for all students and their families.
Please contact the school office on 9489 3086 if you would like more information about Wahroonga Public School. Prospective parents are welcome to join a school tour or meet with myself or the Deputy Principals, Ms Fernandes and Mrs Graham, to discuss your child's educational needs.
