Interest Groups and Extra-Curricular Groups
Students at Wahroonga Public School have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities held throughout the week. Please see the weekly overview below for the days and times of school groups held before school, recess, lunch and after school (These are subject to change). Below is a description of some of the clubs.
Students need to listen to announcements made at school and read the student notice board to find out when activities are on. We thank all of the teachers who give up their time to make all of the exciting activities possible!

Bush Building
Join the Bush Building Club! The Bush Building group is open to all students from Years 1-6 on Thursday second half lunch time. If you would like to be involved, come to the Bush Patch at the bell and meet Mrs Milligan and Mrs Chenu. We will be building shelters, large and small, from items we can find in the bush around our school. It is a wonderful opportunity to play with sticks in a safe and supervised way.
Chess Club
In 2019 chess for any student in Years 3-6 will be on Wednesday lunch in 6FV classroom.
Due to student numbers and space available, younger students may attend by invitation only, dependent on ability. Please contact Mrs Flynn for more information.
Students may bring their lunch, play a game or two, and join in other lunchtime commitments as needed.
We are very fortunate as Mr Jones (ex-parent from WPS) is able to lead and support the chess club again this year in a volunteer capacity.
Students may be offered an opportunity to play an inter-school competition held on Friday afternoons after school in the local area. More information will be distributed during Term 1.
We are looking forward to another wonderful year.

Ukulele Club
What an exciting Tuesday lunch time we had with approximately 50 children attending our first Ukulele Club for 2019! All except two were brand new beginners. As the school currently only has 21 ukuleles, we had to buddy up and share with a friend. By the end of the session, we had learnt to play the C chord and strum up and down! To be honest, it is too big a group to manage on my own, so if everyone keeps coming back, I will work out a way to split them into two groups for half of lunch each. The Year One students probably found it a bit tricky and may want to wait another year before coming back and trying again. If your child owns a ukulele at home (or you are willing to buy an inexpensive one for approximately $35) it would be very helpful if they can bring it along on Tuesdays. Please ensure it is labelled with their name and class, and ask your classroom teacher to keep it in a safe place during the day.
Happy strumming everyone,
Heidi Piper

YICTE
Our budding Young ICT Explorers met for the first time this week. Over 60 students are interested! If you missed the meeting, please login to Google Classroom and join the class code (lh704v). Then, find the survey link from Mr Tomlins and fill out your details and explain your big idea. YICTE meets every Thursday lunch in ICT1 and 2. All interested students from Yr 3-6 are welcome, even if you missed the first week.
