Band News - Term 4, Week 9

BAND NEWS – Term 4 Week 9

VIRTUAL BAND PROJECT:

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Virtual Band Projects. The projects are just about ready to launch - they look and sound amazing! These three projects are solely the performances of students from Year 3-6 at Wahroonga Public School with no tutors involvement. When you listen to A Minor Journey in particular, remember that some of the students only started learning their instruments at the start of 2020. The projects will be uploaded to the school’s Facebook page and a link will be emailed home to band families.

CONCERT BAND TOUR:

Concert Band students enjoyed so many wonderful experiences on the 2020 Band Tour to Coffs Harbour last week. The students fitted a lot into the three-day tour including:

·         Performing at Coopernook Public School, Narranga Public School and Nabiac Public School

·         Meeting Indigenous Elder Uncle Mark; learning more about Country and reciprocity; and listening to Uncle Mark play the didgeridoo

·         A visit to the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie to learn more about koalas, and ‘adopting’ two koalas thus assisting in their recovery

·         Camp activities such as the Giant Swing, Dual Sky Wire and Gaga Ball

·         A trip to see the Big Banana

Following a year when performances were a scarcity due to COVID, the students embraced the opportunity to perform and so brought much joy to others in the rural communities. The students were a credit to their families and school. A special thanks to Mr Gott (Conductor), Mrs Piper, Mrs Gilchrist and Mr Edwards for accompanying Kate and the students on tour and for all their assistance, and to Kylie for all her work behind the scenes.

2021 BEGINNER BAND:

Next week, all students currently in Year 2 who have enrolled in the 2021 Beginner Band will be notified of their allocated instruments based on their preferences. Any other students who are still wishing to join the Band Program in 2021 and are yet to enroll, please contact Kate and Kylie on the below email address.

RECORDER:

Enrolment forms for students wishing to learn or continue recorder in 2021 will be sent home with current Kindergarten and Year 1 students in Week 10.

All hired instruments by Beginner Band students should have been returned by now. Any Beginner Band students who have not yet returned their hired instruments should bring their instrument to the Burns Road Band Room on Monday morning as the instruments are being sent for cleaning and servicing next week.

JUNIOR BAND:

Junior Band will meet one more time this year at the usual rehearsal time on Monday 14 December to return their instruments and participate in one final ‘rehearsal’ with a difference. All Junior Band students who have a hired instrument should bring their instrument for return for the annual cleaning and servicing.

INTERMEDIATE BAND:

Any Intermediate Band students who have not yet returned their hired instruments should bring their instrument to the Burns Road Band Room on Monday morning as the instruments are being sent for cleaning and servicing next week.

CONCERT BAND:

STAGE BAND:

Stage Band performed for their families in a small outdoor concert this week, wowing the audience with their renditions of the Earth, Wind and Fire Dance Mix; The Way You Look Tonight; and The Mr Carger Blues. Congratulations to all Stage Band students for all their hard work this year.

THANKYOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thank you to all the students and parents for being a part of the Band Program this year. We have spoken to all students about resilience and tenacity, and how their commitment to band this year has been exactly that in 2020. Special thanks to the conductors, tutors and Kylie Lee for all their hard work, passion and dedication, especially in this unpredictable year. We look forward to a great year in 2021 and wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas and a wonderful (and musical) New Year. Best wishes to all,

Kate Spencer ♫
