Band News - Term 3, Week 2

BAND NEWS – Term 3 Week 2

What an exciting week it has been for students in the Band Program! With the students joining forces in three combined band rehearsals this week across all four bands, students had the opportunity to be extended while also benefiting from the experience to lead and mentor others. We moved through some great repertoire and are looking forward to next week when all bands will continue to rehearse in the same format. Please note that ALL band rehearsals are being held in the Burns Road Band Room this term. There are no rehearsals in the Water Street Band Room.

Monday:

Intermediate and Junior Band rehearse together in the Burns Road Band Room under the baton of Beck and Mr Gott – arrival time 7:50am for an 8:00am rehearsal. The combined repertoire is Do Re Mi and A Minor Journey, with YMCA and A Royal Procession being introduced on Monday. (Students will be given the music for YMCA and A Royal Procession on Monday at rehearsal.)

Tuesday:

Concert Band will rehearse as usual in the Burns Road Band Room under the baton of Mr Gott – arrival time 7:50am for an 8:00am rehearsal. Concert Band repertoire is as follows: WPS Burns Road March; Conquest; The Hiding Place; Happy; Mamma Mia; Grease; YMCA; Kelvin Grove; Mambo No. 5; and Living For The City.

Wednesday:

Junior and Beginner Bands combine to rehearse in the Burns Road Band Room under the baton of Mr Gott and Beck Heather – arrival time 7:50am for an 8:00am rehearsal. The repertoire is: Enchantment; Swansea Town, Regency Fanfare and Stadium Rock. (Junior Band students will be given the music for Regency Fanfare on Wednesday at rehearsal.)

The combined repertoire is WPS Burns Road March; Mamma Mia; YMCA; Grease; Shackelford Banks and An American Hymntune. (Parts for Shackelford Banks and An American Hymntune will be distributed next week.)

Friday:

Beginner Band rehearse as usual in the Burns Road Band Room under the baton of Beck Heather – arrival time 7:50am for an 8:00am rehearsal. During this rehearsal, students will continue to learn consolidate repertoire and work as one. Beginner Band repertoire is Enchantment; Swansea Town, Regency Fanfare and Stadium Rock.

All students should have access to their band’s Google Classroom page which has recordings of some of the pieces including the guide/click tracks for the Virtual Band Project pieces. These recordings are invaluable resources for student learning. A reminder that a fun way to practise is for students to play along with the Percussion 1 recording part to see how their part fits in with the rest of the band.

VIRTUAL BAND PROJECT:

Thanks to those students in Junior, Intermediate and Concert Bands who have already submitted their recordings for the Virtual Band Project. The guide tracks for the pieces have been emailed home to parents and are also on Google Classroom for the students to access. Junior Band are recording A Minor Journey; Intermediate Band – WPS Burns Road March; and Concert Band – Kelvin Grove and Burns Road March. Students may upload their recorded part to their respective Google Classroom page. Concert and Intermediate Band students are also invited to record A Minor Journey if they wish. Please see Kate for the music. The following link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Id95290Cgdp4oxEkZwiwgoALLoig2ujN/view was created by Mr Tomlins - for instructions on how to upload recordings to Google Classroom for the Virtual Band Project.
