Band News - Term 1, Week 5

BAND NEWS – Term 1 Week 5

It has been a busy week for students in the Band Program and all bands are sounding great. A reminder of rehearsal times and venues and tutorial days:

Monday:

·         Beginner Band rehearsal on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room – arrival time 7:50am for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. Please leave school bags at the top end of the silver seats, unpack instruments there, then sit in allocated row on the silver seats.

·         Concert Band rehearsal in the Burns Road Band Room - arrival time 7:50am for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. Please leave school bags at far end of Burns Road Band room verandah against the wall of band room, unpack instruments, and come into the band room ready to play at 8:00am.

·         Tutorials for students in Year 3 and 4 during the school day

Wednesday:

·         Beginner Band rehearsal in the Burns Road Band Room – arrival time 7:50am for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. Please leave school bags at far end of Burns Road Band room verandah against the wall of band room, unpack instruments, and come into the band room ready to play at 8:00am.

·         Intermediate Band rehearsal on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room - arrival time 7:50am for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. ·         Tutorials for students in Year 5 and 6 during the school day

·         Stage Band rehearsal in the Burns Road Band Room – arrival time 3:20pm for a rehearsal from 3:30pm – 4:30pm

Thursday:

·         Intermediate Band rehearsal on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room – arrival time 7:50am for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. Beginner Band:

The very first Beginner Band rehearsal on Monday was fabulous, and the 72 Beginner Band students are now playing short pieces. Beginner Band students should be focusing their practice on the first two pages of the Essential Elements music book. Special thanks to the 13 Concert Band students who volunteered their time this week to mentor and support the Beginner Band students during their Wednesday rehearsal: Aaron M, Amelia A, Amelia B, Emma K, Ivy S, Joshua M, Keira C, Lily G, Lucy M, Matthew R, Megan Y, Samuel B and Violet K.

The 2021 Musician of the Week trophy is awarded to a student who shows a respectful and positive attitude, a willingness to learn and to help others, punctuality and demonstrated musicality. The Musician of the Week receives a certificate, and the trophy to take home for the week. The 2021 Musician of the Week for Beginner Band was awarded to Edward B (Trumpet) for trying his hardest at all times, great playing, respectful behaviour and for helping others. Congratulations Edward!

Intermediate Band:

Intermediate Band had two terrific rehearsals this week. Students should focus on: The Wahroonga Blues; A Syncopated Stroll; Over The Rainbow and Andalucia.

The 2021 Musician of the Week trophy is awarded to a student who shows a respectful and positive attitude, a willingness to learn and to help others, punctuality and demonstrated musicality. The Musician of the Week receives a certificate, and the trophy to take home for the week. The 2021 Musician of the Week for Intermediate Band was awarded to Kiera E (Clarinet) for consistent respectful behaviour and effort, beautiful playing and for always doing what is asked of her. Congratulations Kiera!

Concert Band:

Concert Band students are working hard and managing some challenging and exciting repertoire. This week’s home practise should focus on: Siege, Water Street March; Salvation is Created; The Beetles Forever; A Day in Space; and March of the Superheroes.

The 2021 Musician of the Week trophy is awarded to a student who shows a respectful and positive attitude, a willingness to learn and to help others, punctuality and demonstrated musicality. The Musician of the Week receives a certificate, and the trophy to take home for the week. The 2021 Musician of the Week for Concert Band was awarded to Keira C  (Flute) for great musicality, trying her hardest at all times and respectful behaviour. Congratulations Keira!

Stage Band:

Stage Band have been learning all about the Blues scale and continue to work on improvisation. Students should focus their practise on Cold Duck Time; Front Burner; Chameleon and learning the Blues scale.

Recorder:

Recorder tutorials are in full swing! All parents should have received a email confirming their child’s tutorial time. Recorder tutorials are held in the Water Street Band Room. It’s not too late to join the Recorder Group! Enrolment forms are available from the school office.
