This week, rehearsals for Concert Band, Intermediate Band and Stage Band commenced and it has been wonderful to see and hear all the students in their respective ensembles. Over twelve pieces have been distributed among the three bands and students are already working hard with their tutors to learn the new music.
Beginner Band students who have indicated they would like to hire an instrument will be receiving their hire agreement forms today. Students are asked to bring the signed hire agreement form to the Water Street Band Room (under the school hall) at 8:30am on Monday 15 February where the instruments, music book and folder will be distributed.Students may only take their instruments home once the signed hire agreement has been received.
Students learning a large instrument eg tuba or euphonium, will be allocated two instruments – one for home use, and another for their use at school. Similarly, bass guitar students may take home an amplifier for home use. Parents of students learning these instruments, thank you in advance for accessing the school via the Water Street entrance to collect these instruments. In line with COVID-guidelines, please do not walk across the school from the Burns Road entrance, and thank you for remembering to socially distance when collecting the instruments. All Beginner Band students should collect their instruments and music from the Water Street Band Room from 8:30am on Monday 15 February, and take them to their tutorial that day.
Tutors should have been in contact with you to confirm a tutorial time and place. Tutorials for Beginner Band will commence on Monday 15 February. In the first tutorial, tutors will focus on instrument care and how to put the instrument together, and then how to play the first note. This will be a very exciting day for the Beginner Band students!
Beginner Band will rehearse on Monday and Wednesday mornings this year.
Please note, due to the swimming carnival, there will be no rehearsal on Wednesday 17 February. The very first Beginner Band rehearsal will therefore be on Monday 22 February on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room, when all students would have had a tutorial, have their instruments and music, and be ready to go! Students should arrive at 7:50am ready for a rehearsal from 8:00am – 9:00am. Beck Heather (Beginner Band Conductor) and Kate Spencer (Band Coordinator) will be there to meet and support the students. While the Monday rehearsals will be on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room, the Wednesday rehearsals will be in the Burns Road Band Room. Beginner Band students should bring their instrument, music book and folder to all rehearsals.
Intermediate Band is off to a great start. Students have been given the following music to practise: The Wahroonga Blues; A Syncopated Stroll; Over the Rainbow and Andalucia – students should be practising these pieces and take them to their tutors next week to work on.
Intermediate Band will continue to rehearse on the silver seats under the COLA adjacent to the Burns Road Band Room, on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Students know to leave their bags at the top of the seats and unpack their instruments there to avoid congestion around the Burns Road Band Room. Please note, due to the school swimming carnival next week, there will be no Intermediate Band Rehearsal or tutorials on Wednesday 17 February.
