Young ICT Explorers Awards
Being at the YICTE finals was an absolutely amazing experience. While at my booth i can see many booths with such creative ideas. I enjoyed looking around at everyone's booths and seeing how they made their projects and i also enjoyed seeing people's faces when they said my project was a good idea and they really liked it. When the judges came to my booth i was really excited even though my legs were shaking under the desk. When the judges were watching me while i speak made me feel really scared, it felt like if they were just staring. There were so many great ideas but my favourites would be the Water thinkers who had a prototype of an idea when a tap is turned on it measures how much water comes out and how long it was on for, i thought it was a clever idea.My second faavourite was track your Hearing made by a girl named Bella who thought it was a great idea to make a hearing aid for people who can't hear very much. I made it to 3rd place which was amazing for me because i have never been chosen for anything like this. When my name was called i didn't even realise, i was just staring at the screen and then i saw my name and my project name on the board so i quickly ran up to the stage. Just being at the finals is a great experience.
Year 6 Science Experiments
Do Plants Produce Oxygen?

How does a plant use water?
The experiment showed us how plants absorb nutrients through the roots and up through the plant stems. The food colouring allowed us to see how nutrients are delivered to all parts of the plant.

How does insulation (blubber) slow the flow of heat and help polar animals conserve body heat?

How does salt affect the temperature of water?
Rwanda - a glimpse of another life
On Tuesday afternoon Aidan Kerr, Year 11 at Northern Beaches Christian School, visited four Year 5 and 6 classes school to talk about his recent trip to Rwanda.
He gave an engaging presentation covering the living conditions, school life and the impact education has. As a volunteer, Aidan was able to help students with their learning which included providing highly-valued dictionaries.
The students gained an understanding of how other children live and maybe even appreciated what they have a bit more.
‘It's hard to imagine having no electricity.' Oskar
‘Aidan' stalk made me realise that we are extremely lucky here. I think that volunteers over there are doing a world of good, and if more people volunteered they might be able to lead a better life.' Will
I would love to go!' Aaron
‘When I grow up I want to do what Aidan did and help people who are not as lucky.' Gabi
‘I think it would be very challenging to go over to a country where there are so many diseases.' Harrison
‘I was shocked when I saw how poor they were and how excited they were to see white people.' Angus
‘It would be a cool experience but it would take a little bit to adapt to a diet with no vegetables.' Felix
There will be a follow-up discussion to see what Stage 3 students can do to provide some assistance.
